Vermont is rich in history, and many of the remnants of that history have been lovingly preserved. Make it a point to visit some of these beautiful old houses and buildings while you are here. Their charm is truly unique. Site visits are also a great way to get kids interested in history.

The Historic Dorset Playhouse was built in 1929 and has held shows each season since! People travel from all over New England to enjoy great theatre in this Playhouse that was originally constructed from two pre-revolutionary barns. The annual Dorset Theatre Festival is a not-to-be-missed event that showcases three plays annually.

Hildene is the spectacular estate built by Robert Todd Lincoln, son of President Abraham Lincoln. The home was built in 1902 and was home to Abraham Lincoln's kin until 1975.

Today the home welcomes visitors to explore its meticulously restored rooms and grounds, including formal gardens, wooded trails, and a working farm.

The Eureka Schoolhouse in Springfield, Vermont is a one-room schoolhouse that has been restored to its original 1759 specs and design and is open for visitors. It is Vermont's oldest one-room school house and is a perfect place to take kids who complain about going to school!
