Stratton Trails
If you are looking for a leisurely day hike or perhaps a more advanced climb to the summit, you need not look further than Stratton Mountain. Stratton has a number of trails, ranging from under a kilometer to 4 kilomenters in length that are perfect for day hikes during your stay. They are organizd by difficulty, so it will be easy to pick a trail that's right for you. Bring a bag lunch and have a picnic at the summit before heading back. It will surely be an afternoon to remember.
The Long Trail, which spans the length of Vermont, was dreamed up by James P. Taylor in 1909 while he stood on the Stratton Mountain Summit! Twelve years later, the Stratton Summit was also where Benton Mackaye decided to take things up a notch and create a trail that spanned from Maine to Georgia. Today, both the Long Trail and the Appalachian Trail run over Stratton Mountain, and hiking a bit of these fabled trails can be a magical and wonderful experience.
